Attorney-General for the State of Queensland v Giddy [2024] QSC 56

In Attorney-General for the State of Queensland v Giddy [2024] QSC 56, the Supreme Court of Queensland the respondent, Christopher Robert Giddy, who has a history involving sexual offences, was subject to a supervision order containing numerous stringent requirements. Following allegations of breaches, including an assault and failure to attend mandatory psychological sessions, the Court had to determine if the supervision order should continue or be replaced by a continuing detention order. Insights from psychiatric evaluation suggested that Giddy posed a moderate to low risk of reoffending if the supervision order was extended with adjustments. Ultimately, Justice Callaghan ordered Giddy’s release on 11 March 2024, maintaining the supervision order with specific conditions aimed at ensuring community safety and facilitating Giddy's rehabilitation.
