In the case Attorney-General for the State of Queensland v Salmon [2024] QSC 272, the Supreme Court of Queensland reviewed the continuing detention order for Timothy Salmon under the Dangerous Prisoners (Sexual Offenders) Act 2003. The court found Salmon to remain a serious danger to the community without an appropriate Division 3 order. Despite previous findings affirming his detention, recent assessments suggested that with conditions, a supervision order could lower the risk to the community. Acknowledging Salmon's engagement in psychological treatment and his completion of relevant programs, the court rescinded the previous detention order. Instead, it imposed a ten-year supervision order effective from November 7, 2024, with strict compliance conditions to ensure community safety, including monitoring, treatment requirements, and restrictions on his residence and movement.
