Dobbs v Parole Board Queensland [2024] QSC 268

In the case Dobbs v Parole Board Queensland [2024] QSC 268, the applicant, Geoffrey Robert Dobbs, challenged decisions made by the Parole Board Queensland regarding his parole application. Held in the Supreme Court of Queensland and presided over by Hindman J, the case centered around the applicant's application for judicial review of the Board's refusal decisions dated 13 May 2024 and 22 August 2024. Dobbs, serving a life sentence, became parole-eligible in 2015 but had multiple applications denied. Arguing procedural fairness was breached as the Board failed to consider key parts of his earlier 2017 application, the court found procedural failings and set aside the Board’s decisions, requiring them to reconsider Dobbs' parole application expediently. The Board was also instructed to cover the filing costs incurred by Dobbs.
