In the matter of an application for bail by Gorgan Ristic [2024] QSC 241

The applicant was initially charged with grievous bodily harm and extortion. Previously, he faced charges including attempted murder and extortion while on bail, and was committed to stand trial in the District Court. Ristic, having resided with Fishers Of Men and engaged in a rehabilitation program, sought to amend his bail conditions. He requested the removal of mandatory rehabilitation participation, aiming for independent living while continuing external counselling. Despite two reporting breaches, he adhered to other bail terms. Justice Muir considered that risks could be managed with modified bail conditions, supporting the transition to a new undertaking, which would simplify administrative processes and adequately address safety and legal concerns. The court resolved to revoke the existing undertakings and impose new terms to ensure compliance, concluding his prolonged detention was unnecessary.
