In Industrial Registrar v The Bacon Factories' Union of Employees, Queensland [2024] QIRC 077, the Industrial Registrar sought the deregistration of The Bacon Factories' Union of Employees, Queensland (BFUEQ) under section 879(1)(c) of the Industrial Relations Act 2016, citing the organisation's defunct status as the primary reason. Established on 28 August 1946, the BFUEQ decided to dissolve on 31 December 2022 and had closed its bank account by 20 February 2023. Despite notifications and a lack of objections to the proposed deregistration, the Commission received confirmation of the union's closure and its lack of financial and operational activity. Fulfilling all necessary procedural requirements, the Full Bench of the Commission, comprising Vice President O'Connor and Industrial Commissioners Dwyer and Pratt, unanimously agreed to deregister the BFUEQ, officially doing so on 3 April 2024.
