MG v Commissioner of Police [2024] QDC 72

In MG v Commissioner of Police [2024] QDC 72, the District Court of Queensland considered an appeal by MG against a decision of the Magistrates Court. The appeal was filed under section 222 of the Justices Act 1886 (Qld). MG, who faced charges for serious domestic violence offenses against his wife, had breached a Domestic Violence order and a bail condition by contacting and pressuring his wife regarding the charges. The Magistrates Court had convicted MG, imposed a fine, and recorded the convictions, despite MG's plea that recording the convictions would negatively impact his employment. The District Court, after examining the circumstances and submissions, upheld the Magistrate's decision. It determined that the sentences and the recording of convictions were appropriate given the repetitive nature of MG's offenses and the seriousness of the violations. The appeal was dismissed.
