NNRM v The Commissioner of Police & Anor [2024] QDC 64

In NNRM v The Commissioner of Police & Anor [2024] QDC 64, the appellant, NNRM, challenged a domestic violence protection order initially granted by the Magistrates Court in Maroochydore. This protection order was applied for by a police officer in favour of the second respondent, FRN, citing the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 (Qld). NNRM, who represented himself, promoted pseudolegal theories, including the "strawman" argument, and claimed that the Magistrate lacked jurisdiction. The District Court of Queensland, presided by Cash DCJ, dismissed the appeal, stating there was no miscarriage of justice and affirming the legitimacy of the original protection order. Additionally, the appellant was ordered to pay the legal costs of the first respondent, the Commissioner of Police, on the standard basis and the District Court scale.
