Palmer v Queensland Police Service [2024] QDC 67

In Palmer v Queensland Police Service [2024] QDC 67, Stuart William Palmer appealed against convictions and sentencing regarding evading police, driving without a licence while disqualified, and possessing dangerous drugs. The appeal was reviewed on 10 May 2024, following a Magistrate's prior sentencing involving a fine. The appeal led to a dismissal of the conviction challenge but saw the sentence appeal allowed. The fine was set aside, leading to Palmer's sentencing to 50 days imprisonment for the evading police charge, with a declaration that he had served 260 days in pre-sentence custody for the period from 31 July 2022 until 17 April 2023. Additionally, for the charges of disqualified driving and drug possession, Palmer was to be released under supervision for six months, adhering to specified conditions, including mandatory medical or psychological treatment as directed. The judgment ensured continuity in Palmer's management, directing essential reports to corrective services and forwarding a copy to the Parole Board for consideration.
