R v Bornstein [2024] QSC 270

In the case of R v Bornstein [2024] QSC 270, Billy Lee Bornstein was sentenced for his involvement in the manslaughter of Lachlan James Griffiths. The court imposed a nine-year imprisonment term, with parole eligibility set for November 21, 2028. The court recognized 721 days of pre-sentence custody as time already served. The conviction stemmed from a plan where Bornstein lured Griffiths with the intention of serious harm, which resulted in Griffiths' death inflicted by a co-offender. The defendant's knowledge of the eventual violence and his role in facilitating it, along with his previous criminal history, influenced the sentencing.
