R v Quinlan [2012] QCA 132

In the Queensland Court of Appeal case R v Quinlan [2012] QCA 132, William Alan Quinlan was found guilty of sexual assault after allegedly offending a passenger while driving his taxi. Quinlan's conviction and six-month imprisonment sentence, suspended after seven weeks for a 12-month operational period, were upheld despite his appeals against both conviction and sentence. The appellant's challenges centred on the reasonableness of the verdict based on the evidence, including video footage from within the taxi and inconsistencies in the complainant's testimony. However, the Court concluded that the jury's verdict was reasonable, dismissing the appeal and emphasizing the gravity of sexual offenses, especially those involving a breach of trust towards vulnerable individuals in a taxi setting.
