R v WCD [2024] QCA 120

In R v WCD [2024] QCA 120, the appellant, WCD, was convicted of maintaining a sexual relationship with a child alongside four counts of rape. The conviction arose from the testimony of a child complainant who brought allegations of consistent sexual abuse by the appellant over several years. The defence contested the reliability of the complainant's evidence, highlighting inconsistencies and the absence of certain jury directions concerning prior inconsistent statements made by the complainant. The Queensland Court of Appeal, however, found that the suggested directions, even if given, would not have reasonably affected the verdict. The appeal was dismissed, affirming the original conviction and the 13-year imprisonment sentence.
