The Registrar of the Supreme Court of Queensland v Wood [2024] QSC 21

In The Registrar of the Supreme Court of Queensland v Wood [2024] QSC 21, the Supreme Court of Queensland rejected an application brought by the Registrar. The case concerned an application to punish the respondent, Ian Andrew Wood, for contempt of court due to statements he made during hearings on 26 July 2023 and 2 August 2023, where he suggested the court and the presiding judge were corrupt. Wood contested the admissibility of evidential materials presented by the applicant, particularly challenging Ms. Steel's affidavit, on the grounds that the requirements of Section 92 of the Evidence Act 1977 (Qld) were not met. The court, however, ruled that the evidence, including transcripts and audio recordings, was admissible under statutory exceptions and other relevant provisions. Consequently, the court found no merit in Wood's objections and upheld the admissibility of the contested evidence, leading to the rejection of the application.
