The Registrar of the Supreme Court of Queensland v Wood (No 2) [2024] QSC 91

In The Registrar of the Supreme Court of Queensland v Wood (No 2) [2024] QSC 91, the Supreme Court of Queensland considered an application to punish Ian Andrew Wood for contempt of court. The application arose from Wood’s statements during hearings on 26 July and 2 August 2023, alleging corruption within the court. Judge Martin SJA presided over the matter. Wood challenged the jurisdiction of the court and sought to strike out the application, arguing various procedural grounds under the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules 1999 (Qld) (UCPR). However, the court found that it had the jurisdiction to hear the Registrar’s application and that Wood's objections did not hold merit. The court rejected Wood’s arguments, upheld the admissibility of the evidence, and concluded that the Registrar’s evidence, taken at its highest, was capable of proving the contempt allegation. Consequently, Wood's application was dismissed, allowing the contempt proceedings to continue.
