Vymetal v Inverardi [2024] QLC 20

In Vymetal v Inverardi [2024] QLC 20, the Land Court of Queensland evaluated objections against Lukas Vymetal's mining claim application, MC300441, on Bonny Glen Station. Active party objectors, Vic and Mary Inverardi, expressed concerns mainly over access disruptions, environmental impacts, and perceived misuse of the land for metal-detecting purposes. Their objections encompassed issues such as biosecurity, unauthorized land access, and potential interference with livestock. The court considered these objections alongside the Small-scale Mining Code and the Land Access Code. Although the Inverardis, along with the Gummi Junga Aboriginal Corporation, raised substantial issues regarding land use and environmental management, the court found that the conditions and guidelines in place would sufficiently manage these impacts. Consequently, the court recommended granting the mining claim with conditions intended to minimize disturbances and ensure proper communication with landowners.
