Wood v The Registrar for the Supreme Court of Queensland [2024] QCA 196

In the case of Wood v The Registrar for the Supreme Court of Queensland [2024] QCA 196, the Court of Appeal dealt with Ian Andrew Wood's challenge against orders made by Martin SJA. Wood was found guilty of contempt in the face of court for statements made on 26 July and 2 August 2023, and was sentenced to four months' imprisonment, suspended after two months, with both sentences running concurrently. Wood's appeal argued errors in the finding of contempt and the excessiveness of the sentence. The appeal was dismissed regarding the contempt finding but partially allowed concerning the punishment, modifying the sentence to account for 23 days already served. The court also declared those days as imprisonment already served and upheld a requirement for Wood to demonstrate good behavior for a specified period. The Court found no justification to refer the matter to the Crime and Corruption Commission and ordered Wood to pay the respondent’s costs.
